The story

The brief

Southeast Living is a monthly glossy about life in the Panhandle: homes, food, health, real estate and the people behind them. It is published in Juneau and handed out free at more than a hundred spots from Ketchikan north, with a print run of about 4,000 an issue. The site was our very first hosted client, back in 2012, and its job has never changed: everything that prints goes online the same day, at no extra cost to the advertisers who make the magazine possible.

What we did

Every edition is embedded as a page-flipping digital magazine, with a browsable archive that reaches back to the first issue in 2011. A dozen regular contributors have their own columns and author pages, and the event galleries — Holiday Cup soccer, the Maritime Festival, the Golden North Salmon Derby, the skating recitals — are shot and published by the magazine's own team. Advertisers buy their space right on the site, from a business-directory listing to a two-page spread, either for a single month or as a recurring monthly subscription billed automatically through WooCommerce Subscriptions and Stripe. Contributors sign in with their own accounts, and a newsletter keeps readers posted between issues.

What changed

Fourteen years on, the site holds the complete run of the magazine: more than a hundred digital editions and four hundred-plus articles, all still searchable, while advertisers renew their monthly placements without anyone chasing an invoice.
